Homeowner in Canada comes across bizarre ant nest

‘Ant nest’ of bees in living room foyer of Toronto home
In Canada, we never say we are going away and that includes ants, too.
Someone in Toronto says they found a gigantic nest of hundreds of bees in their foyer, and it looks like it could make up part of their living room.
The person wrote on Reddit asking for help because they were taking pictures of the nest to document what was going on, but they were concerned that a very specific and potentially dangerous pesticide might destroy the nest, and wanted to be sure they didn't do anything that would harm them or their family.

The ant nest was found in Toronto's ward 10, on the edge of a condo development.
The resident told CBC they called exterminators and were told they needed to be extremely careful not to disturb the nest, but that they should be able to take it out without destroying the nest or anything.
This person did manage to capture pictures of the nest, which can be seen here.
Since the nest is in a condo, the Toronto Building Code came into play, and the building has security officers that look out for nests. The building has also taken action against the home, so the ants and bees are gone.
Unfortunately, the Toronto Building Code prohibits "any pest control measures that involve the destruction, elimination or manipulation of the insects' natural environment". That's why the exterminators were so careful not to harm the nest.
The inspector didn't have any recommendations to make, but the homeowner has been given a "notice to keep safe" as well as a 24-hour pest control request.
This is one of those cases where you have to wonder if the people making these building codes thought about how their rules would impact the insects. What about the thousands of species that live in this city?
